MILLENNIUM PARK
How do you build excitement for something that doesn't exist?

Client
Millennium ParkMillennium Park, Kent County, Michigan, is a 400-acre greenspace with plans to grow to 1,500 acres by 2010. The park will restore wildlife habitat, lakes and wetlands, and create swimming beaches, canoe trails and nature trails. Its purpose is to promote healthy lifestyles and enrich the quality of life for area residents.

Challenge
Kent County officials and Secchia Millennium Commission, the driving force behind the park, have admirable goals. However, to help fulfill their vision, they needed a means by which they could generate enthusiasm and support for the park from the community.

Light Bulb
As a community service, we offered to create a web site pro bono. The site would get people excited about the park, and would encourage them to join in and help turn the Millennium Park dream into a reality.

Solution
Our web site was designed with the entire community in mind — from media to volunteer worker, from contributor to curiosity-seeker, from young to old. The site features the park as it is…and as it will be. A media center displays photos and press releases reviewing past and current developments. Other site areas inform visitors of fundraising progress and encourage them to consider different levels of involvement. There’s even an interactive game for kids.

Results
"Structure:Interactive…did a super job of guiding us through the process [of creating a web site]. Not only were they easy to work with, they built a compelling and creative site targeted to kids of all ages. We’ve received a multitude of email requests for more information and offers to volunteer with park development and more than 96,000 hits since the launch [April 12, 2001]."
