Can we talk? A dialogue-based approach to furniture specification

Client
Turnstone, a manufacturer of smartly designed and cost-effective office furniture for fast-growing companies and home offices.

Challenge
Turnstone salespeople found that customers were overwhelmed by the details of the furniture ordering process, and were losing track of the larger picture. They wanted to get the customer excited by, and involved in, the process of choosing office furniture. From the sales standpoint, the client wanted the ordering process to be as streamlined and automated as possible.

Customer needs are driven by their workstyles. Ordering furniture is more than just choosing a chair — it requires an understanding of needs and environment.

Solution
We created a CD-ROM that established a dialogue with the customer. In a series of easy, interactive modules, the customer points-and-clicks through work style analysis, workstation ideas, an electronic showroom, and a space-planning tool. At the end of the process, a completed order is ready for entry into Turnstone’s electronic order system. The sophisticated database at the heart of the system allows the salesperson to place complex orders directly into the client’s business system without manual data entry.

Results
Errors are minimized. Sales increase. We look like heroes.
